This was not the goal, not the plan for her day or life for that matter. She usually kept to herself and when she didn’t she was relatively careful of the people she interacted with. There was another cat, a friend, or at least she thought they were friends and yet here she was, betrayed and humiliated. She can’t remember what exactly had happened, it was like the other rider suddenly decided Hailey wasn’t good enough anymore. The worse part was this other person wasn’t just stronger than her, their dragon was bigger, older, more versed in fighting. She never really taught her dragons to fight, she didn’t really think it was something she needed to do but now she realized perhaps she should have all along. She glared up at the other rider from where she sat on the ground, having been shoved back when she had confronted them. Athena had jumped forward but Hailey had called her off quickly as the other rider's dragon took a step forward itself. Athena questioned her rider through the bond, she could fight, she KNEW her rider knew she could, so why was she being told not to? Sure she had only been in petty squabbles with untrained wild dragons but she had won regardless. She bared her teeth at the two who had once been friends.
“Oh look, you understand you’d never win this fight. Good. Now go back to your hole where you belong.” This now ex-friend laughed in an awful way that said so much about her personality that it almost hurt that Hailey hadn’t seen it before. Or maybe she had and chose to ignore it because she was young and just wanted a friend. “Take that stupid ugly dragon with you.” The world seemed to freeze around the feline. She could take people insulting her but her dragon? That was a bit too far in her opinion. She stood up slowly, her ears pinned to her head and her tail twitching, her dragon could sense the change immediately as well and Athena lashed her spaded tail once. This was about to get fun. Without a second thought, before she could think better of her action, before she could chicken out, she lunged at the other rider. She caught them by surprise so much that she managed to tackle them to the ground. The other rider’s dragon moved forward but Athena was there, blocking the bigger dragon’s path, the other dragon raised a clawed hand to swipe Athena away and she leaned ever so slightly away from it and when the dragon’s hand came down it got caught on her large, strong, SHARP spikes. The dragon let out a horrid sound, ripping its hand away and shaking it, drops of blood sprayed from it, splattering the fighting riders.
The riders were a tangle of claws and teeth, growling and hissing as they fought like wild animals and in a way perhaps they were. Different collared fur was flying around them as they grappled, rolling around the ground in a horrid mass of hate. The older rider’s claws caught Hailey in the shoulder and she hissed in pain, retaliating by racking her own claws over the other rider's chest. Hailey had had the upper hand at first, her surprise attack, while perhaps cowardly, had worked in her favor but their difference in strength was beginning to show. Hailey got one more good strike in before the older and stronger rider pinned her to the ground. They were breathing heavily, scratches and the older rider’s dragon’s blood. Hailey had stopped trying to fight the second she had been pinned but she still barred her teeth in defiance.
“Very cute but you could never best me in a fight, not in a million years.” The other rider smirked in a way that infuriated Hailey but the cat knew the other rider was right. She could not beat this rider in a fight…at least not yet.
