Adventures on In'Nali Island: Ch. 1
On the horizon In’nali Island started to loom, the mountains that adorned the southern side of the island piercing the sky as the small boat sped towards it. While simple and quite small, the boat master had ocean and wind dragons which he used to speed the small vessel, beside it another dragon soared, easily keeping up with it, her m smaller and just as energetic companion diving to and fro. “Almost there, you should be able to see to port town soon.” The boat master called out to his passengers, a navy bestia and a cloaked women, the latter of which was keeping an eye on a much smaller dragon that frolicked his youthful croons endearing as he blinked up at the vessels dragons.
Meiron glanced over at the words, leaning against Meeth in way that she’d slowly gotten used to. True to the boat masters words, the town slowly appeared, other boats docked in the wooden piers that ran from the towns eastern side, further along colorful awnings glittered, the towns driftwood markets visible and alluring to visitors: and the reason why the town was known as Driftwood Cove. Meeth tensed slightly as the dock came into view, leaning back into the cat so as to relax … for while it appeared they were here as tourists, they were anything but, though did serve as a good cover… even if she’d blushed when the boat master had congratulated them on their ‘honeymoon’.. Still she was worried, while the island looked idyllic she couldn’t help but think of the baker near her fort who had come to her for help. Officially she wasn’t under any obligation to help the townsfolk who lived in the shadow of her fort, but they’d helped her… and the bakers heart rending sobs when her daughter and young family had gone missing … well.. she’d said she’d look into it.
Magna, as if sensing his riders worry slinked over using Meiron to climb up so he could cuddle her, the cat didn’t so much as twitch, more than used to those type of antics after all. Meeth lifted a hand, to rest on the hatchlings head, Suzaku and her companion remained close, more than aware that she could be taken as a threat. As the boat approached the dock it slowed, the magics easing as the boat master brought the vessel to a halt against the pier, skilled hands fastening the boat securely.
Once secured the boat master hopped off beckoning his passengers to disembark, barely flinching as Suzuku landed nearby her flames dancing over her body and her companion settling at base of her dorsal spine. “If you’re looking for good food and lodging, the Ring and Quill …. Well actually it’s the only place you will find lodgings at the present” the boat master amended his words, his outstretched hand point to a large establishment that could be seen just across a path across from the base of the docks. “A bit rowdy for a few hours at sunset once the fishers dock but it’ll settle before midnight. And if you’re wanting the return trip, I’ll be back on the isle on alternate days”
Meeth smiled at him passing over his payment, magna having slid down and noodled up to Suzaku. Meiron looked over the town his gaze moving past the inn the boat master had mentioned. North of the Ring and Quill he could make out various sized buildings, some appeared to be lodgings but the larger, probably where the townsfolk sorted through the fish they caught. Southbound, his gaze was caught in a circular stone tower, which served as the towns lighthouse, its magic quiet as the it was still in daylight hours and nary a cloud in the sky.
“Do you think we should look around first?” Meeth asked, moving closer to Meiron her gaze as watchful as his. He shot a grin her way, navy tail twitching. “What, you don’t immediately want to drag me to a room in an inn and have your way with me?” Suzaku snorted as Meeth punched him on the arm, her face bright red at his implications, Magna ever the helpful hatchling to his rider also swatted Meiron with his tail…. And tried to glare … though it lasted all of two minutes as Meiron petted the pink and black noodle. “So cruel.” His teasing tone continued, even now she wasn’t quite used to his teasing nature. Least Nyx wasn’t here to join in. “Shall we check out the markets the town is known for?” She continued not verbally responding to the cats tease. “As my lady commands.” Meiron responded, his amusement still apparent in his voice. Suzaku paced behind the two riders looking like an overgrown lizard like dog.. albeit one with various flames at point, her wings were folded tight as they headed down the path towards the beaches where the markets were held, still selling their wares in the remaining daylight hours. Besides her, Magna plodded, only a third of her size but already a good length, his night colored snout held high in the air even as his pink fins and wings fluttered in the breeze.
The evening breeze played over the group as the path descended towards the beach, while not initially noticeable from a distance, the motte that the town had built up around its perimeters raised it slightly. The market canopy’s soon came into view, the colorful fabric glittering against the yellow backdrop of the beach. It wasn’t the largest market, barely 4 separate stalls, but as they got closer each of their wares were different …from small carvings to utensils to name a few of what they had to offer. For the most part they just browsed, with Meeth asking the occasional question on their crafting, for though she herself was blacksmith quite often she’d with carpenters for the odd job or two. Meiron stayed close, glaring at those who were a bit too friendly with his mate and keeping an ear out for any stray bits of conversation that may have relevance later... and that pricked his curiosity.
Suzaku, with her scattered flames stayed away from the stalls not wanting to worry them that one of them may set their wares alight… not that she didn’t have amazing control over her flames, she like Meiron also focused more on information gathering. Magna, still too young to fully grasp what they were up too was truly interested in the carvings and sculptures, one piece in particular had caught his eye and he tugged on Meeth’s cape, a quizzical hurr escaping as he pointed at the item in question. It was spherical overall, with patterned holes through and once picked up something loose could be heard. Meeth picked up the item, while rough parts of it were intricate enough for her to be reluctant to give it to Magna as a toy. "Ah, don't you worry about the little one playing with it, its what's its meant to be, helps keep little ones entertained, and I'm still learning." The stallholder said, an elderly lady. Magna squealed, for though he couldn't speak he yet he certainly could understand what was been said. "Thank you." Meeth said, handing over the payment, and passing the 'ball' to Magna, who immediately stuck his claws in it, waddling on his back legs back to Suzaku, to show her his toy. "Shall we go get a room for the week?" she asked, leveling a glare at Meiron to warn him not to tease, the cat grinned as they started to head back up to the town.
