[Gift] The 11th Hour | Bees

There was a swarm in the Great Tree.

Bumblefree had been minding his own business, lazing on a distant branch, when he’d felt the distant buzz vibrating through the fine scales on his wings. With great reluctance, he’d peeled himself from his napping spot, and bounded in slow, frog-like hops from one branch to the next, until he found them.

The mass of bees was larger than he’d anticipated; easily able to swallow a smaller Jungle dragon. This was a full colony, absconded from their past hive and now building a new one, having determined that the Tree was a suitable replacement.

Bumblefree weighed his options, proboscis curling and uncurling as he buzzed quietly in contemplation.

And that was what did the trick.

At his buzz, the bees stopped their movements for a few precious moments, and Bumblefree could feel them listening to him. It was a limited amount of power, of course; bees were hardly complex. But it was more than collecting pollen, building the hive, protecting the queen, and so on. There was something there.

He took a deeper breath, and buzzed low and deep, projecting thoughts of pollen and protection, feeling a warm effusion through his body as the bees began to dance, and an even greater joy as that contentment seemed to reach them as well.

Yes, this was going to work nicely. Bumblefree let the noise die, and the bees quickly got back to their busy, busy work. He swelled with pride, and hopped off the branch, wings catching the air to carry him downwards so he could find Garooni and tell him the excellent news.
