Final Breeder Job Promotion | Muriel
Muriel crossed the garden in the quiet hours of the afternoon, carrying a polished wooden tray filled with supplies. The main mansion stood behind him, elegant and imposing, with dark wooden beams, curved roofs, paper screens, and carefully maintained gardens surrounding it. A short distance from the mansion sat a second building, smaller than the residence but no less beautiful. It had been built specifically as a hatchery, designed to give dragon eggs and hatchlings a peaceful place to develop away from the bustle of the household.
The hatchery had the appearance of a traditional Japanese guesthouse, with a wide tiled roof, wooden pillars, and a small covered walkway leading to the entrance. Muriel slid open the doors and stepped inside, immediately beginning his preparations. He moved with the same calm patience that he brought to nearly everything else, taking his time to make sure every detail was exactly where it needed to be.
The central room was spacious, with polished wooden floors and large windows overlooking a private garden. Muriel began by opening the shutters, allowing warm sunlight to spill across the room. Fresh air followed, carrying the faint scent of flowers and damp earth from outside. He then lit several small lanterns around the room, their gentle glow ready to provide warmth once evening arrived.
Near the center of the room sat the main nesting area. Muriel knelt beside it and began arranging layers of soft bedding. He started with thick woven mats, followed by blankets made from especially soft fabric. He added carefully dried grasses and several bundles of clean straw, arranging everything into a broad, comfortable nest. Once satisfied, he pressed one hand gently into the center to test its softness before adding another layer.
The hatchery also contained a low wooden cabinet filled with supplies. Muriel opened each compartment and checked its contents. Clean cloths, bowls, feeding utensils, grooming brushes, medicinal herbs, and containers of food were all placed neatly within reach. Nothing was left to chance. Raising hatchlings required patience and preparation, and Muriel had no intention of scrambling for something after a dragon had already hatched.
He next turned his attention toward temperature. Along the walls were several elegant ceramic heating fixtures, designed to provide gentle warmth without making the room uncomfortable. Muriel adjusted each one carefully, checking the temperature around the nesting area before making small corrections. The hatchery needed to remain warm enough for a young dragon, but never excessively hot.
Once the practical work was finished, Muriel began making the room more inviting. He placed several decorative cushions along the edges of the nesting area and arranged a few tasteful ornaments around the room. A small water feature trickled quietly in one corner, filling the hatchery with a soothing sound. Outside, the private garden contained smooth stones, flowering plants, and a shallow pond, giving any hatchling plenty to eventually explore.
Muriel finally stepped back and surveyed his work. The hatchery looked immaculate, warm, comfortable, and almost luxurious. Everything a dragon parent could need was ready and waiting. He checked the nesting area one last time, straightening a blanket that had shifted slightly and placing a shallow bowl of fresh water nearby. Even the entrance had been cleared of anything that might trip a curious hatchling.
There was no telling exactly when the egg would hatch, but Muriel was prepared to wait. Whether it happened that evening or several days from now, he would be there when the moment came. For now, the hatchery was ready, and the quiet little building stood peacefully beside the mansion, waiting to welcome its newest resident.
