God x Zephyra

God had found himself a rather pleasant spot in a clearing, one where the grass grew thick and soft beneath the trees and the afternoon sun filtered through the branches overhead. He was lying comfortably on his belly, his enormous legs tucked beneath him and his long neck stretched out along the ground, his great head resting sideways in the grass. Even lying down, he was an imposing sight, his body taking up a considerable portion of the clearing, but he seemed perfectly content to remain there. A few small birds had gathered around his snout, hopping between the light scales and occasionally pecking at something they had found there. One had even settled on his cheek, quite unbothered by the enormous eye that watched it curiously. God gave a low, gentle rumble, and the little bird answered with a chirp before fluttering down to join the others. It was a rather pleasant arrangement, really. He had always enjoyed the company of smaller creatures, and they seemed to have very little trouble accepting him despite his considerable size.

There was, however, a reason for his gathering today. God was quite familiar with courtship, and he knew that a thoughtful gesture could be worth considerably more than some grand display of strength. He had no intention of simply presenting another dragon with a pile of food and hoping for the best. He wanted to put together something lovely, something that might catch her attention and give her a pleasant surprise. Flowers seemed a good place to start, accompanied by a few other little offerings gathered from the surrounding woodland. Unfortunately, collecting such things himself was rather impractical. His claws were enormous, and even the most delicate movement could easily destroy whatever he was trying to pick up. Fortunately, he had several willing helpers who were much better suited to the task. A small rabbit sat beside his nose, listening as he rumbled softly, while two squirrels had taken up residence along the top of his head, nestled quite comfortably against his yellow feathered crest. They seemed to understand what he wanted, or at least they were quite happy to pretend they did. The rabbit eventually hopped away, disappearing into the grass, while the squirrels scampered off in opposite directions. God watched them go with a rather pleased expression, then lowered his head a little further into the grass as another bird landed on his snout.

It wasn't long before his helpers began returning. The rabbit came first, carrying a small flower in its mouth, which it deposited near God's nose before hopping off again. The squirrels followed with little collections of berries, nuts, and fallen blossoms, while the birds brought back petals and small sprigs of greenery. God watched as they began arranging everything in the clearing, occasionally offering a quiet rumble when one of the creatures seemed uncertain where to put something. One particularly determined squirrel dragged a flower nearly as large as its own body across the grass, stopping every few moments to readjust its grip. God lowered his head and gently nudged the flower closer, helping the little creature along without disturbing its efforts. The squirrel paused, looked up at him, and then continued on its way as though this were an entirely ordinary occurrence. Eventually, a little collection had formed in front of him, a mixture of flowers, berries, and other small treasures gathered from the surrounding woodland. It wasn't particularly elaborate, but it was quite lovely, and God seemed satisfied with the result.

Zephyra arrived while the final arrangements were being made. She came gliding down from above, her enormous wings spreading wide as she descended into the clearing, only to slow when she noticed the rather unusual gathering. She landed on a nearby patch of grass, looking from the flowers to the berries, then toward the enormous dragon lying beside them. God lifted his head slightly, although he was careful not to move too quickly and disturb the little birds still perched around his face. A squirrel was sitting quite comfortably atop his head, nestled into his feathers, apparently more interested in its surroundings than in the arrival of the small female. God turned his attention toward Zephyra and greeted her with a soft rumble, his voice low and warm. The little dragon tilted her head, clearly taking in the sight before her. There was an enormous dragon lying in the grass, a collection of woodland creatures gathered around him, and what appeared to be a carefully arranged assortment of flowers and food sitting nearby. It was certainly an unusual sight, and not one she was likely to encounter every day.

God gently gestured toward the collection of offerings, explaining that he had gathered them with a little help from his woodland companions. They were intended for her, should she care to accept them. He made no assumptions about what she might like, instead allowing her to inspect the collection and choose whatever caught her interest. Zephyra stepped closer, her eyes moving over the little arrangement before settling on the honeycomb one of the squirrels had managed to procure. Well, that certainly caught her attention. She gave a delighted chirp, then another, much louder one, and one of the birds startled into flight at the sudden noise. God gave a quiet, amused rumble as the little dragon began inspecting the offerings, carefully picking through the flowers before taking a berry in her beak. The squirrel atop his head watched her with what could only be described as great interest, particularly when she discovered the honeycomb.

She eventually settled beside God's enormous head, her wings folding neatly against her sides as she began enjoying her treats. A little bird hopped closer to investigate her, and she turned to watch it before giving a curious chirp. God remained perfectly still, his great head resting in the grass as the animals continued their little gatherings around him. One of the squirrels had climbed onto Zephyra's back, seemingly deciding that she was just as suitable a perch as he was, and she looked rather surprised when she noticed it. God rumbled softly, the sound travelling through the ground beneath them, and the squirrel scampered away again. He lowered his gaze toward the little dragon, observing her reaction with quiet interest. She seemed quite pleased with the offerings, and the woodland creatures appeared equally pleased with the attention their efforts had received. God gave another gentle rumble, content to let the afternoon unfold without rushing anything. After all, a gentleman ought to make an effort, and sometimes the best assistance came from the smallest of creatures.
