Lore F.A.Q.

Can I break canon/do something different/make up my own lore?

Yes. Parallel universes make everything super simple to account for. You can have dragons that act like horses, your own village smack dab in the middle of Shérok, your own made-up religion for your characters, and so on. As long as you meet the minimum requirements for activities, you can have any sort of thing going on behind the scenes. Your characters are the main characters.

Can the Erré be crossbreeds?

First, Erré are all the same species–human. They are all born looking like such. As they age, they take on blessings from whatever island they are on. Their appearance depends on the god that is blessing them and is irreversible. If a person moves from one island to another, it’s possible for them to receive a new blessing and gain different animal traits that way. If two Erré from different islands have a child, the child will be born human and take on traits from whatever god has power in the vicinity. If they are born outside of Eredia, they are unlikely to have any animal traits at all, since the magic of the planet and power of the gods is both needed and far away. A normal person of any species–regardless of their heritage–can journey to Eredia and acquire traits if they create a place for themselves in the community.

Do dragons talk?

Absolutely! All dragons can speak to one another in a common dragon tongue. This is unintelligible to most people, but universally known by dragons. They can also learn to speak the language of humans. Dragons that have a bond with their Rider can communicate telepathically with that Rider. Some dragons can communicate in alternative ways by using magic (check individual element pages see if they are able to do so).

How big are dragons?

You choose the size of your dragon! They will grow according to their Rider’s need (even if they don’t know what they need). The smallest dragons are the size of beetles, while the largest are as big as Argentinosaurus huinculensis. Refer to the size chart above for recommended size categories. Anything smaller than ‘medium’ will be barred from participating in riding activities (such as races), but gain access to other activities (like talent shows).

How quickly do dragons mature?

Dragons will mature up to the level of their Riders. They all start off very small and over the course of the month grow to their full size. For particularly large dragons, their care must always be done by the sea in order to find sufficient food for them as they grow. Their size remains the same relative to their Rider as their Rider matures. It is possible for dragons to grow larger if the need arises, but they cannot shrink without some sort of magic involved. (If a dragon stays in the same Challenge class, you may change what size they are. In example, a Large may become a Medium, but a Medium cannot become a small because that would change the available Challenges for it.)

Can my dragon shapeshift or change sizes?

Only certain types of magic will allow your dragons to shapeshift or change sizes. Dark dragons can use their magic to change forms, although their scales and markings will still be obvious. Light dragons can create a perfect illusion and masquerade as whatever they want. Earth dragons can temporarily increase their size to intimidate opponents. Thunder dragons have artificial bodies that change appearance over time. Once dragons have learned tier two of magic, they are able to gain EXP for any alternate forms drawn, regardless of their element. The alternate forms are, for the most part, cosmetic.

Does X race have a certain skin color?

All canon human races vary between all natural skin tones. Some have a proclivity towards certain tones, but none represent a ‘standard.’ If a skin tone is not mentioned, then there is no common skin tone for that race. Do not let color considerations hinder your character building—no one will bat an eye towards a human of any natural color. Racism still happens, but is a douche move in all cultures.

What are the gender roles on the planets?

Most people on both planets do not specify the role of a gender. Shéar in particular could care less about what’s going on downstairs. Here are the exceptions:

  • The Ere are ruled by people who identify as women.
  • The Irrit are matrilineal. They also designate certain spiritual roles to each gender. Females are the only ones permitted to perform magic rituals and teachings, males are the only ones allowed to kill and teach battle techniques, and twospirits are the only ones allowed to petition directly to their god. They have a ritual to determine gender when the child reaches a certain age; up until then, children are considered genderless.
  • The Abrendese are patrilineal, with most business matters falling on the firstborn males. Women typically marry out and perform the social ties between families.

In all situations, no role is considered more important than the other. Sexism is present, but is always a douche move no matter what culture you hail from.

Dragons have no specific gender roles. They are gender fluid, if anything, given their ability to perform Rites of Renewal. They also exhibit no sexual dimorphism.

How do trans people fit in?

They are integrated into all canon cultures. However, only the Abrendese and Ere have access to HRT (or the magical equivalent). Sexism and deadnaming still happens, but is always a douche move and not reflective of culture. Deadnaming is particularly rare, since trans people are more readily identified when they are younger (and thus, fewer people know their deadname).
