Wayfarer Tales Expeditions

This is a test of a new feature–Expeditions! If you have suggestions to make this feature easier, feel free to suggest them on Discord! There's always room for improvement. The rules here might not reflect the final rules/prompts of Expeditions. Additionally, all Wayfarer Tales Expeditions are safe, so your characters will not get any negative status effects on their journeys.

How do I unlock an Expedition?
After completing a quest, an Expedition prompt is chosen based on your tasks. For more detailed information, view the Extra Buffs section.

Do I need to do an Expedition?
No, you do not need to do any Expeditions. You can ignore some or all of the Expeditions, or wait until September to complete them all at once. There is not a limit to how many Expedition prompts you receive during the event.

Do I have to finish an Expedition before I get a new one?
No, you can choose to do another Quest and gather as many Expedition prompts as you like during the event. Note that the prompts do expire.

Is there a due date for Expeditions?
Expeditions are due at the very last second of September, Baker Island Time. This is a full month after the main Wayfarer Tales event ends.

Can we share Expedition prompts and results?
The current format feels easiest for players to turn things in, but it also means prompts and results are unfortunately a secret. To be completely transparent, you are allowed to share results, and it’s even encouraged!

Can I use Familiar Search Tools?
No, you cannot use search tools during this event. However, there are exclusive Familiars to be found in the wilderness! A Rancher is more likely to encounter these Familiars.

Turning in Expeditions:

To turn in an Expedition, submit this form to the Wayfarer Tales prompt:

Character: (name of character completing the Expedition. If they are an official uploaded character, link their import here.)
Prompt Link: (go here and click ‘Details’ on the Prompt that has the Expedition info. The final link will look like this: https://www.chronocompass.com/submissions/view/IDNUMBERHERE )
Terrain: (optional)
Buffs: (optional)

Then, attach any characters completing the prompt, even if they are not the one doing the Expedition.

Rules & Requirements:

  • Deadline: September 3oth, 11:59 PM, Baker Island Time (one month after the main event ends)
  • Limits: You may collect as many Expedition prompts as you like.
  • Character Requirements: You may use any species as your Expedition character, as long as all art requirements are met. Note that pieces will still need an uploaded dragon somewhere, even if they are not the character completing the Expedition.
  • Illustration Requirements: Full body, colored, and a background that has four or more elements other than the flat ground and plain sky. There must be an uploaded dragon somewhere in the image. Images must be uploaded to a gallery of some sort, and NOT direct links to the image.
  • Written Requirements: A minimum of 600 words is required. There must be an uploaded dragon somewhere in the story.
  • Collaborations: You may collaborate. When collaborating, the minimum word count increases by 300 for each extra activity or prompt. If the other player does not have the same quest prompt, they cannot claim the quest reward, but they can roll for other Expeditions or ARs if their requirements are met. If a prompt requires a dragon from another player, then a collaborator may own it.

Extra Buffs:

Trying to optimize your results? This is the section to check! There is no need to know any of this. You can just wing it.

General Buffs:

Note that you can only use one character for these general buffs, so they need to belong to the same character to be used. Dragons have access to the same buffs as their Rider.

  • Familiars: Party Parrot, Vixen, Lucky Duck, Black Cat, Border Collie
In order to claim these as buffs, they must belong to the character completing the Expedition or belong to a character that participated in the quest.
  • Fortune: Fortune works slightly differently during Expeditions. It has a chance of bringing back a Treasure Box or Treasure chest on completion of the Expedition.
  • Calendar: If your Expedition art matches the Den theme, you can apply Calendar.

Miscellaneous Buffs & Info:

These can apply regardless of what character you pick as your buff focus.

  • Familiars: Robin, Common Dolphin, and the Budgie familiars all work as usual. They simply need to belong to any character in the expedition art.
  • Hidden Buffs: When an Expedition prompt is chosen, it takes into account what characters appeared in the task that triggered it. Some prompts are only available when a Carpenter is present, or when a Fire dragon is around, and so on. The final Expedition prompt can also be influenced by hidden factors, such as the Terrain chosen for the art.
  • Item Buffs: You can include item add-ons to your activity. These give a small increase to the Expedition results (1% for regular, 3% for italicized, 5% for bolded and italicized). With all buffs combined, you can’t boost past a 50% increase in outcome.
  • Grinding Help: The event only lasts a month. That doesn’t leave a lot of time for sleuthing. To ease things during the event, the tasks and buffs that can trigger the prompt are included with the prompt, and the buffs that activated during the Expedition are included during processing. That way, you have a better idea of what to do when you are after a certain prompt or result. The potential loot is still a surprise, but you will also learn if your results are common, uncommon, rare, or ultra-rare. Currently only these four rarities apply.
  • Sidenote: There are over a hundred prompts that can trigger, and multiple results for all of them. Rare items may pop up as prizes from different prompts, so it’s worth testing out many routes. It is very unlikely that all prompts will be seen during the event, let alone prizes. Any undiscovered prizes will be released in separate events, or within regular updates (such as Silvence Store items introduced in the more common results).
