Your First Characters

Hello, my name is Mac, and I’m here to guide you through the Chronoscape for the first time! You’ve probably seen some neat dragons running around and want one of your own, right? Let’s get you on a fast track to getting your first dragon and Rider duo. A dragon that exists without a Rider is quite rare indeed, so we're also going to learn how to make a Rider!

Picking Your Element

There are ten basic elements in the group. Each one represents a different kind of dragon. Choose one that you like. You can find out more about each element by clicking the gemstones on the top menu, but for now, go with your gut choice based on appearance and personality. You can have as many Riders and dragons as you like, with no limits on how frequently you can submit them to the game.

Elemental dragons are the core species of the group. They are a completely open species, though they have to have an official import and approved design to participate in the group. There are ten basic elements in the group. Each one represents a different kind of dragon that you might be familiar with. Unlike typical dragons, they require an attachment to a Rider in order to survive. Riders fill a mental void that the dragons simply can't live without. Each element varies in its need, so they have a preferred Rider personality. You can find their favorites below! Your Rider doesn't need to match their favored trait in order to raise them, but the dragons would certainly appreciate it.

Elements Inspiration Favored Trait Appearance
Light Dragons Qirin Charisma
Fire Dragons Western Dragons Vengeance
Jungle Dragons Fairy Dragons, Amphibians, Insects Craftiness
Thunder Dragons Artificial Dragons, Golems, Androids Intelligence
Earth Dragons Saurian Dragons Strength
Ocean Dragons Sea Serpents, Leviathans Compassion
Storm Dragons Wyverns Instability
Wind Dragons Rocs Loyalty
Dark Dragons Mist Dragons, Ghosts Wisdom
Metal Dragons Armored Dragons, Pangolins Purity

PAth One: Start With a Dragon

Have you picked your element? Awesome! Let's get a dragon that matches. When eggs are laid, they come with something called a geno. This determines what sort of dragon they will become, what colors they can be, what markings they can be...all sorts of stuff! They might look like gibberish, but it's easy to break down!

  • Sex - This determines who a dragon can breed with. This can be changed if it disagrees with the character.
  • Element - This determines what colors your dragon can be, what magic it can use, and what traits you can choose for free.
  • Physical Traits - The basic building blocks of your dragon. Wing type, body type, that sort of thing. Can be swapped out (refer to design guide).
  • Display Traits - The dragon's markings.
  • Modifier Traits - Stuff that changes the dragon's shape, such as extra horns.
  • Mutations - These are a bit of a rarity. It's best to read the trait description if you manage to find one.
  • Recessive - These are genes that don't show up or affect a dragon but still have a chance of passing down at a lower rate than usual.

Now that you know how to read genos, you can adopt your dragon at Aurelia's Hatchery! You can also acquire them through events or trading with other players, but the Hatchery is the best place for newbies, and many of the dragons come with potential designs to start you off. You will still need to write a short summary of the character that adopts them so that we know the dragon is going to a good home, but you don't need to submit this character or have them approved to adopt.

Path Two: Starting With a Rider

If you have a character but aren't sure what element of dragon they would get, you can start with a Hatchery Quest. Click here to see more specifics on the Hatchery Quest. Your character will interact with dragons for the first time and the dragons will decide what egg to give them. This quest is four steps long. You don't need to submit this character to the group unless you are ready to hatch their egg.
